Christ’s Love Compels Us

SUNDAY LESSON NOTES

2-2-2026

READ 2 CORINTHIANS 5:11-21

  • Jesus died for all humans. Those who recognize this fact and want to follow Jesus, they will no longer live for themselves but for Jesus.
  • When we follow Jesus, we should no longer see each other from a worldly point of view.
  • We need to realize that Jesus lived and died as a human and as the Son of God. But God raised him from the dead. My life should be different when I decide to accept this reconciliation.
  • Jesus paid for the debts our sins created. Our accounts have been made whole because of Jesus’s decision to sacrifice himself for us. We have been made into new creations as a result of this deal.
  • The word RECONCILE in Greek language was used to refer to financial transactions.
  • What is the transaction taking place in this passage? Jesus’s death in exchange for Human forgiveness of Sins- this is huge!
  • We have become ambassadors of Christ when we decide to accept the gift of his forgiveness.
  • In a worldly sense, ambassadors are representatives of a government. The ambassador makes deals and decisions on behalf of a country’s leader.
  • As Christ’s ambassadors we can offer the truth about who Christ is and what he has done to each human so that they may have an opportunity to accept this gift of forgiveness of sins.
  • READ 2 CORINTHIANS 4:7-15
    • The gospel of Jesus is that he died, was raised from death by God and entered into God’s kingdom in heaven in order to reconcile us to God and send us his Holy Spirit.
    • We have the Holy Spirit living inside each of us. Although we may be fragile like jars of clay, God’s Holy Spirit inside of us will keep us living for Christ and surviving the struggles of this world.
    • We carry around the reminder of what Jesus did for us inside our bodies. By remembering Jesus’s sacrifice we will have the motivation to be like him.
    • The Love Christ has for us seen by his willingness to sacrifice himself for us should compel us to live according to his teachings.
    • What teachings of Jesus are you living out right now? What teachings of Jesus are you planning to add to your life? Are there things in your life right now that you are doing that do not align with Jesus’s teachings?
